On a train back from Washington D.C. after the inauguration of President Trump, I ran into New York Senator and House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. He had recently made some comments on The Rachel Maddow Show that many people found alarming.

The Senator suggested the intelligence community could potentially "get back" at President Trump as revenge for his skeptical response to their assessments.

These assessments have included anonymously reported and/or questionable information that still has not been corroborated by any photographic, video, audio, email, eye witness or any other forensic evidence of any kind.

The CIA told us Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and preemptive war was necessary. We now know that was a mistake.

Presidential authority over intelligence agencies is necessary because checks and balances of all kinds ensure integrity of government. The notion that unelected officials of clandestine agencies might exact revenge on any president is horrifying.

Healthy skepticism should be applied to assessments that lack substantial accompanying evidence.
